We went, we built, we saw, we survived. It was quite an honor to get to go to the playa early and work our asses off to help set up and decorate Center Camp Cafe, one of the iconic fixtures of Black Rock City. When we arrived it was nothing but dirt and a shade structure. By the time we finished it was a beautiful social space. The variety was amazing. From the people to the jobs to do. It was a little back breaking and infinitely gratifying at the same time. Shawna was instrumental in helping Carolina Sunshine get the spoken word stage backdrop painted with "Speak" in over 130 languages. I was tossed from team to team filling in to get other things complete. From putting up walls to hoisting pennants to assembling lanterns and hanging endless numbers of paper cranes. We helped the deco team get it all done only 24 seconds behind schedule. That was only the beginning. Next came Burning Man, an indescribable experience of artistic effort and kindness. Something that all of humanity has hidden inside but our respective societies successfully suppress. For a few short days there is nothing but love and dust in the air. We learned more about each other and grew closer as a couple. Then in a raging inferno the man came down and it was over. The heat faded but the memories will remain. Thank you to all the citizens of BRC. We had a great time.
